Snakes

Sri Lanka is home to a rich diversity of snake species, featuring both venomous and non-venomous varieties. The lush forests, wetlands, and agricultural areas provide ideal habitats for these reptiles. Venomous species, such as cobras and vipers, pose risks due to their potent bites, while non-venomous snakes, like rat snakes and pythons, play vital roles in controlling pest populations. Unfortunately, many snakes in Sri Lanka face threats from habitat loss and illegal trade, highlighting the need for conservation efforts to protect these important members of the ecosystem.
