What to Expect

Your tour will be starting from the Ella Jungle Resort at 8:00 am. You will be picked up in a 4WD safari jeep and driven to Horton Plains National Park. It is suggested that you wear hike-friendly gear with proper hiking boots, and take a sweater as the temperature can drop suddenly. If you have not had breakfast at your hotel, you can bring a packed meal and enjoy it on the long drive. You will get there by 10:00 am.

Horton Plains National Park is the only national park of Sri Lanka that is situated in the Central Highlands. With plains covered in patna grass and interspersed with small patches of forest and low brush, the park is home to many hundreds of species of flora and fauna. Some of the species most anticipated by visitors are the sambur, monkeys and rare leopards. You will also be able to observe an impressive number of birds life, including some endemic species. Not to be forgotten are the flocks of rare butterflies that call the place home, along with other insect life. You will be driving through the park for an hour or so, before traveling to World’s End.

This most dramatic feature of the park requires you to hike to it for a short distance. You will then find yourself on a plateau that ends abruptly, dropping sharply for over a kilometer; hence giving it its name. The plateau gives you an almost 360-degree view of the most magnificent vistas. After spending some time here taking photographs and meditating too if you wish; you will be doing the return hike back to your jeep. Then your guide will take you to a suitable place for a picnic lunch. You can enjoy your meal in full view of the beautiful plains. You will also have a short break afterwards.

At approximately 1:30 pm you will be driving to Baker’s Falls, which is located within the park. Based off a tributary of Belihul Oya, this waterfall was named after Sir Samuel Baker, a famous British explorer from the Colonial Era. Falling from a height of 20 m, it is a majestic sight worthy of preserving in photographs. After having some in the water, you will be starting your return trip back to the resort. The tour will end at approximately 4:00 pm when you get back.
