Vavuniya Airport (VCCV)

Vavuniya Airport is a domestic airport located in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, near the town of Vavuniya. Primarily functioning as a military airbase under the Sri Lanka Air Force, the airport also has limited civilian aviation capabilities, playing a key role in regional connectivity and strategic operations.

The airport features a single runway and basic infrastructure to support both military and occasional civilian flights. Its location makes it a potential gateway to the Northern region, offering access to key towns such as Jaffna, Mannar, and Kilinochchi. Although regular commercial flights are currently limited, the airport holds future potential for regional air travel expansion.

Visitors and travelers passing through Vavuniya can use the airport for chartered or government-coordinated flights, particularly for administrative, humanitarian, or military purposes. The facility is also significant for emergency response and logistics during natural disasters or relief missions.

Overall, Vavuniya Airport is an important infrastructure asset in Northern Sri Lanka, supporting both national defense and limited civil aviation needs. Its strategic location enhances accessibility to the island’s northern heartland and contributes to regional development and mobility.
